Clue Redemption Post

CLUE REDEMPTIΘN

So you came in on the September 2014 wave of applications, and with it, your character was given a key. Or maybe it was the October 2014 round, and you were given a clue you'd like to dig into further. Good news: This is where you redeem it.

SEPTEMBER ROUND: KEYS
All you have to do is show us your acceptance note and tell us how your character finds the lock the key belongs to (extra credit if you link to a relevant thread!), and we'll tell you exactly what they've found.

OCTOBER ROUND: CLUES
We'd like to know which numbered slip you got and how your character finds the relevant clue location, and we'll give you any details you could possibly want. If you traded clues with another new character, that's totally fine, but we'd like them to drop in and confirm the trade before we give any deets!

Unfortunately, the key doesn't seem to go to any of the doors in the hospital! However, in a desk within the hospital (if she chooses to go snooping) will yield a lanyard holding two cards - one which seems to be an ID with the name and face melted off, but the card clearly states that they're an employee of... Well, the first couple of words are burned off, but 'TESTING FACILITY' is clear as day. The other card is a key card almost identical to Orihime's but it's been broken in half and rendered unusable.

At least now she's got a stronger lead to follow?

Off near the edge of the graveyard is a much different grave, marked only by a palm-sized rock. It seems that a name's been carved into the rock, but that name's illegible now. If you dig a little, you'll find a jewelry box to which the key fits.

Inside are the following items:
- An old doll, with a number of the seams sewn back together with different colored threads and one eye-button clearly having been reattached.
- A picture of a little girl (no older than six) with long brown hair tied up in a messy pony-tail, the doll dangling from one hand with her other arm wrapped tight around a big white husky - it looks almost identical to Ammy! Without her goddess markings, of course.
- A handwritten note in awkward, childish scrawl: I new youd come back for me. sorry i'm not here. i tried to be i promise. pleese take care of her

There's something off about the air inside the jewelry box - not enough to be dangerous, but Ammy might be able to pick up that whoever last held the doll was pretty sick.

The keyhole will be difficult to reach, guarded by creatures with claws sharpened to a point on the rocks (you can hear that sharpening echoing through the tunnels from somewhere much deeper) and teeth laced in saliva which feels almost like a mild acid. They come at you in the shadows, but if you shine your light in their direction, they're gone before you illuminate their spot. Fire should do the trick, or flailing wildly with something blunt and hoping you make contact won't go amiss either.

You may notice there's moisture on the floor of the cave. Nothing huge, the slightest of trickles, but it seems to be flowing downhill toward the way you've come from even where there's no slope in the cave floor. If you follow it to the source a winding half-mile in, you'll come to a door, the water trickling in through the top of the frame.

If you unlock it, you'll come face to face with... a sheer 100 foot drop. Holy shit, here's hoping you didn't open it with too much momentum, because that'd be a hell of a fall.

But that's not all.

With all that twisting and turning through the tunnels, you may not have realized the door's directly facing the outside barrier. And indeed, that very same barrier shimmers faintly about four feet in front of the open door frame. What's important, though, is what's beyond it.

A canyon, some 30 feet across, with the door settled 30 feet off the ground and 50 feet down from the top of the cliff. A set of rusted, warped metal stairs leans precariously against the outside of the barrier - no wonder it's shimmering - and the canyon floor is absolutely layered with rusted drums (I wonder what was inside them? Certainly not oil) and human and animal bones.

The human bones seem warped, as if molded like play-dough but not quite enough to be immediately fatal. The animal bones, doubly so. One human skull can be seen, if you squint, with a face on both the front and the back. Another has legs with inverted knees. One deer skeleton even seems to have another, smaller animal fused skeletally to its hind end.

Unfortunately, any attempts to take pictures are thwarted by the barrier's shimmer.

Out stumbles a small handful of zombies!

But they seem to have left the room's primary cargo untouched.

Inside the room is 500 Cups of Noodles.

And a Snickers.

(No, that isn't a typo.)

tsk tsk that hardly counts. you're lucky i love you.

Within the chest is... exactly what you'd expect, actually. Jewels, so many jewels. Some are jewelry (earrings, necklaces, even a dramatic thin-pointed crown), some are simply loose gemstones.

Unfortunately, inside the lid - right where he'd have to put his fingers to heft it up - is a deep red sea urchin. Not just any sea urchin, either. The bristle breaks off in your fingertip and won't come out, and every time you so much as touch it, it sends pins and needles up your entire arm.

It doesn't seem to be harmful long-term, if that helps?

[personal profile] lonewanderings 2014-10-03 10:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's ongoing!

If possible, would Reg be able to harness the agent from the sea urchin that makes the body react that way? Possibly make a serum of some sorts, a one-time use thing?

It's just a fancy looking allen wrench it could go to anything. Are there any kinds of markings that might help?

He's seen/heard others talking about the objects found on them when they woke, like Orihime, so he won't get rid of it, but otherwise he just. Has no leads, so he's just kept it and ?????? at it.

There are no markings on the allen wrench specifically to hint at where it goes, but! The keyhole isn't exactly hidden, if he happens across it.

It goes to the old train station east of Northtown. The station burned down in the wildfire, but much of the metal structure remains... Including what appears to be a control panel. The buttons have all melted flat, but there's a hole in which that specific allen wrench will fit just perfectly.

It's pretty deep in the subway - deep enough that they'll have to fight quite a few savage and almost skeletal-looking wildcat-like monsters to reach it. (Don't let their appearance fool you, they're stronger than they appear, and quick as hell too.)

About 15 feet from the door in all directions, though, the beasts will stop short. They won't come any closer. A faint smell might reach the Geckos' noses then, like an early-stage corpse.

The door itself is in poor shape at best. It had what looks like an foot-square window hole, but that's been long since covered by a vague steel square welded crudely to the door along the edges. It's also covered in writing, large-point black Sharpie by the looks of it. The writing is big, hasty, and scrawling.

'DO NOT OPEN
YOU WILL DIE
YOUR FRIENDS WILL DIE
YOUR FAMILY WILL DIE
DON'T BE A DUMBASS
'

Anyone familiar with locks can tell that the one on the door has been traded out, upgraded to something much stronger.

Something your key will fit in.

Do you dare?
