Character Information
Character Name: Heiji Hattori
Canon: Detective Conan
Canon Point: At the beginning of the Vampire Mansion case.
History: A good chuck of his history can be found here
Personality: At first appearances, Heiji can either appear to be an extremely competent detective or a complete dork. This is because he is equally both. Without his detective skills, he can easily be described as your typical shonen and a typical teenage boy. He gets into trouble, does stupid acts and is extremely brave and loyal. He is probably one of the best friends that you can ask for as once you become his friend, there is nothing that he wouldn't do for you. But with that, he can be irritating with his pride and competitive nature.

Heiji has been around crime all of his life due to his father being a police chief. From a young age, he decided that he wanted to become a detective. He is type of guy that once he has his mind set on something, there is no way that he is going to back down. He has one of the hardest, most stubborn minds in the world to change and it can lead to heated arguments. However, don't take it personally as Heiji would never let a fight get in the way of a friendship. His determination to be the world's best detective from such a young age lead him to be called 'The Best Detective of the West'. Something that his is extremely prideful of and brags about all of the time. Which can also lead to arguments.

On that note, Heiji loves to argue. He is extremely good at it and fights with his two best friends (Kazuha and Conan) all of the time. But this doesn't stop him from being able to get along or work with other people. Rather, it enforces it. It allows him to release built-up annoyance ( and Heiji is very easy to annoy ) before it gets to a boiling point. He purposely annoys and fights with people out of love, respect, anger and sometimes, for fun. Unless he truly doesn't like you, fighting with Heiji is nothing to take seriously.

However, arguing is only one way to get along with Heiji as he is confident enough to both stand up for his option and respect yours. He can be an extremely fun guy to be around due to his light attitude and humour. He is also extraordinarily kind beyond the occasionally bored or annoyed look on his face. He is the type of guy that would help anyone in need, even if it is a burden on himself. Once just keeping an old lady company and allowing her to consistently speak to him despite him needing to catch a train. If there is anything that he can do for a person, then he would do it; possibly even if he doesn't like you. However, asking him to shallow his pride is much harder for him. So is asking him to admit that he is wrong. But if he needs too or you need him too, then he will. Heiji is the type of guy that you can ask to do a favour 'no questions asked' and he'll do just that.

Dependable. Even if things don't go as planned, Heiji is the type of guy that can get things done. He's smart enough to either forge a new plan or makes sacrifices to get things done. Even though he has his moments of pure stupidity, nothing can defeat his loyalty towards someone. His loyalty towards people and his views is nothing but fierce. No one hurts his friends without going through him. He'd fight someone or fall off a cliff, if need be.

While Heiji has his moments of complete lack of common sense that can seem insanely stupid, he is nothing butt. His mind is always analyzing and surveying situations. This comes in handy when it comes to cases. It allows him to put pieces together that someone would usually disregard. Heiji is a brilliant detective and capable of solving even the hardest cases. He believes in building a solid case with good evidence. However, despite his love of science, he does believe in superstition. If only, slightly. He also holds onto the little things and cherishes small items that some guys may throw away. Such as a part of handcuff shared with his Childhood friend, Kazuha.

When it comes to getting injured, Heiji has the worst luck. For the moment of time that he has appeared, he has gotten an insane amount of injuries. It is all over agreed that he has the worst luck with it in the show. If not tied with Shinichi. This is because he can be reckless. While intelligent, he often plans things as he goes. Which can easily end badly and often does. Though these injuries are never a big deal to him. Only really mentioning them when someone else brings them up and doesn't show them off as some would. Over the course of the show, Heiji has been shot, crashed, poisoned, stabbed, knocked out and almost fallen off a cliff. His 'lucky' baseball hat doesn't seem to do much to amend this.

He is also the type of person to never leave someone and their issues alone. Especially if he is close to you. You can simply ask his best friend, Shinichi, on how many times Hattori calls him up to either chat or brag about cases. He likes maintaining close relationships with people and often teases his friends for fun. Hattori is also insanely oblivious when it comes love and complains about silly things for the heck of it. While he can be irritating at times, you can always find yourself forgiving him and speaking to him again.

When it comes down for business though, Heiji's usual teasing and cheery atmosphere goes straight to business mode. He knows that there is a time and a place for everything. You'll never see him messing around at a crime scene or saying something that shouldn't be said. When something is wrong, he can sense it and can either be blunt or gentle when approaching you about it. It all depends on the situation. He also knows when and when not to push someone to their limits and tries to cheer people up when they need it.

Overall, Heiji is a wonderful person to have around. He also speaks with a kansai accent that is extremely distinguished. He is also quite defensive about it, so don't make fun of it. When you need something to get done, he is the type of guy to go too. Or even when you just need to talk or feel alone. Heiji is an extremely selfless guy that focuses on others more than himself.
Items on your character at canon point: Only his cellphone, baseball hat, clothing along with a few scattered items that can be found in pockets. Such as a wallet.
Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:
Abilities: Heiji is extremely adapt at Kendo, investigating, eidetic memory, he is good with languages, and can shoot a gun. He is also able to pick locks and ride a motorcycle like a bad boy.

Strengths: Heiji is extremely good at dealing with pain. For a normal human, he is at the peak of human strength and endurance. His observation skills and deducting skills are also extraordinary for a high school student. Along with that, he is the type of guy that does not give up until the job is done. He has an extremely strong mental state that would take an impossible amount of force to break.

Weaknesses: Heiji's main weakness is that he is just a normal teenage boy. Past being in peak condition and a detective, he is just like everyone else. He gets mad and loses his head more than most sometimes. He has the reckless impulsive nature of a teenager and can get into trouble because of that. He also hates to lose which can get him into trouble. Heiji also sucks at lying. So do not ask him too.

Samples
Network/Action Spam Sample: [ on the screen, there is not very irritated teenager. Which, considering it was Heiji, is no surprise. Hand holding his face he addresses the network. ] Oi! Has anyone seen a small shrimp of a kid around. He goes by the name Conan-kun. If ya have, lemme know. [ There's a beat and a quick flash of emotion crosses his face. Too quick for anyone to register what. ] On a similar note, if ya have seen a Japanese girl with a ponytail and a yellow ribbon in her hair, 'm lookin' for her ta. [ He didn't say anything more. Heiji wasn't the type of guy to give away more than he had too. ] Tell them that Hattori Heiji is lookin' for them if ya have. The girl is probably bein' annoying and the kid gettin' inta trouble. [ and with that he ends the call. The expression of his face changing to a more serious one. He wasn't quite ready to show everyone how smart he actually was. Not until he understood the situation more. ]
Prose Log Sample: This was not where he last was, Heiji had gotten that the moment he opened his eyes. Nor was that a normal kidnapping. Whatever was going on was certainly more important than the case that he was just on. Getting up, he got right to work. His eyes analyzing everything in his surrounding. He had never been here before and there was no doubt that he wasn't in Japan. He knew his country well enough to establish that. The plants around him were not ones that he knew to grow in the area.

It doesn't take Heiji long to gather more clues. More clues that lead to him to be extremely annoyed. How the hell did he get to America and how did someone managed to get him there without him waking up at all. Whoever did this was capable. More importantly, if he was a target than it was possibly that the people he was with at the time were a target too. Heiji really wished that he had his kendo sword with him. Or, well, any weapon at all. It didn't take a detective to realize that this was not a safe place to be.

Stuffing his hands into his pockets, Heiji thought about his options. While he could gather plenty of intel on his own, he would probably be a better bet to ask around. He'd certainly have to be careful about who he asked though. There were other people that had arrived in the same manner that he did, but he doubted that they had more much for a clue of what was going on. He needed to find someone who seemed to have spend more time here, and there seemed to be plenty. It was certainly rare for someone to take so many people at a time, and to still have so many captive.

Dammit, this didn't make any sense. Spotting a person nearby, Heiji put on a clueless teenager look. That was the safest bet for now. With a wave, he spoke.

"Oi! Over here!" Hopefully they would have more answers.

Character Information
Character Name: The Jon
Canon: Steam Powered Giraffe
Canon Point: Before Hatchworth is released from the vault and repaired, before Rabbit’s upgrade, while still performing with Rabbit and The Spine at the San Diego Zoo.

History: The Jon was the third of the Walter automatons to be created, and in his grief, Peter Walter I made a series of changes to the design of the core and containment system that led to a rather impressive explosion… and a distinct difference in the way the young bot ran. The first year of his life was merely one of learning and experiencing the world around him, how to interact with others, whether family, friend, or stranger.

It was after that year that the real world started encroaching on the Walter’s content existence. Peter was building again, creating more robots, including the final sibling of the three automatons, Hatchworth, who The Jon took to instantly. He’d always wanted to be a big brother, and with the void powering the iron automaton, the two related to each other remarkably well. He didn’t however understand why. Why Rabbit, The Spine, and eventually The Jon himself would be outfitted with new subroutines, weapons. Why Peter wouldn’t answer him when he asked where they were going. Was it a vacation?

Anything but. The robots, only a year old, were sent to Africa along with the other support, set to task fighting the giant copper elephants that had been menacing the Rock Candy mines there. The older two were perceptive enough to keep The Jon and Hatchworth away from the beasts when they were downed, but the brassold bot had good hearing, and could hear the agonized screaming of the twisted pilots of the metal behemoths they were tasked with fighting. But he never mentioned this to his siblings, not wanting to add to the obvious upset that came from fighting, going so against the peaceful intent they’d been created with. They were meant to create music, happiness, not destroy. The experience left both he and his siblings so traumatized that it was many years before they were seen again, remodeled once again for their original purpose of song and entertainment, and it seemed that things would improve.

There was a dark pall over the normalcy however, as there was the unfortunate discovery that Hatchworth’s core was leaking blue matter, causing his void to spew dangerous things that put everyone around him at risk. Unable to fix the damage at that point, Peter was forced to put the youngest Walterbot into a lead-lined vault while he tried to figure out some way to fix the problem.

However once again, they were pulled into another war, though this time working with search and rescue crews during the first world war. It was a relief that they weren't expected to fight against humans, but even still, seeing the way the opposing armies tore into each other, their fragility in comparison to the automatons startled and frightened The Jon, making him more protective of his family, especially the human members.

Sadly enough it was a short lived peace despite the Walter family's wishes, and once again the trio were pulled in to fight with the Allies, occasionally together, but usually in separate divisions, which seemed to only feed The Jon’s typical shyness around adults outside the family. One of the times they were brought together to help with a bombing raid, The Jon and his siblings disobeyed orders to instead rescue Allied forces nearby, as to them? It was more important to save the soldiers they'd been sent into battle with. Looking forward to peace when finally sent home, they instead discovered that their father had died three years before they'd been sent home, and the government hadn't seen fit to tell them.

The Jon and his siblings were just tools to them after all.

The robots have another five years of relative quiet, before the Beciles once again intrude into their lives, Thaddeus's descendants assault Rabbit, stealing her core. The family is treated to a taste of what happens when Blue Matter is mishandled when they attempt to retrieve the core. They get there as Ignatius and Norman switch it on, and the ensuing explosion rips through time and space, killing two men, mutating another and injuring the two remaining men. The Jon, due to his more innocent nature was left behind during the attempted rescue, but even he was affected by the grief that sank over the family like a pall after this, becoming even more attached to his eldest sibling, as if afraid that she’d leave them too.

His tentative grasp on reality seemed to be put to test after test as the familiar life they’d finally settled into was sent into chaos again as The Spine, the one he relied on as his rock in the swirl of oddity that was his daily life, was taken by the government for testing that they refused to explain or justify. When he returned, in a newly built chassis, The Jon was caught up in the middle of a bitter fight between his siblings over the change, one that lasted quite some time before something seemed to give. Rabbit never really forgave about the new chassis… but she and The Spine weren't fighting over it anymore, so to The Jon it seemed all was as it should be.

In reality, the fight might have continued on for years, fueled by stubbornness on both sides, if not for the death of yet another human member of their family. It put ice on the argument, and while the two might never have resolved the issue, both were quite willing to push it aside in favor of pulling the family back together again, as well as helping the young Peter Walter V settle into the family home.

Despite protests from the Walter family, the government once again pulls the automatons into war, this time to support ground troops in Vietnam. Sadly, the entire thing turned disastrous, in the midst of battle the three are taken down, and by the time any other support came to the area, the bots were gone. The three bots were dragged to a facility deep in enemy territory, where as scientific curiosities they were studied, and brought online so that the Vietnamese could try to extract information from them, in tactics that wound up amounting to torture. Once the scientists had gotten what they needed, the bots were forced offline again, and wouldn't be found until eight years after they went missing, when retreating American troops came across the storage facility they were being kept at, and the government arranged for them to be sent home, where they were repaired and brought back online. While all three bots claim not to remember what happened during their time in captivity, the mechanics in an act of mercy did what they could to make sure that memory file was wiped; however once again it’s hard to tell how much of the terrifying experience was actually deleted, and how much still remains, especially in the strange mind of the brassold automaton.

In light of such a horrible experience, they asked the Walter Mechanic, Michael Reed Sr to put a lock on the programming they needed to use their weaponry removing the weapons from The Jon completely, and he as well as his brothers took a vow of peace, determined never to participate in war again.

Luckily it seemed the government was content to leave the trio be, and they resumed their performing in relative peace. Over the years, the Steam Man Band was forgotten, and after a few false starts, one of which involved a ill-fated attempt at an advertising deal for Crystal Pepsi, leaving The Jon only able to run on the now-discontinued soda, and a misadvised attempt at being a boy band, he and his siblings started to perform in a park near their home under the name 'Steam Powered Giraffe'. It was this that started to garner them attention again, and they started releasing albums, going on to do proper shows as their popularity was increasing.

Personality: If one didn't know any better, they'd almost swear The Jon had been brought online only days ago, if even that. Despite everything he'd seen, everything he'd been through, from the wars he and his siblings had been drafted into, to watching one family member after another age and die, he didn't seem to carry any of his hundred and sixteen years. From his sweet innocent outlook on everything, his trusting nature to his... odd ways of play, he definitely seems childlike. While this does tend to make him approachable and likeable, his less than sensible way of doing things is sometimes not in his best interest, sometimes even landing him in the workshop for hours or even days as the Walter Workers are left cleaning out his insides from his latest culinary experiments, or from gravy, or from water and mud, or the confetti that always seems to find it's way into his filters.

There's something almost fae-like about the young Walter Bot, from the dreamy smile that was almost always on his golden face, to the sometimes faraway look in his optics. He drifts along through his life with an almost surreal innocence to him, his almost childlike body language and often soft shy tone just adding to the effect. And really, despite his usual nonsensical chatter, there are some times when the things he says are so scarily insightful, that one might just wonder if there isn't something to that otherworldly quality of his charming smile.

Outside of performing, The Jon is a surprisingly shy and soft-spoken bot in general around others, especially adults with which he tends to hover near one of his siblings if they’re nearby, letting the older bots do the majority of the talking. It’s around children that he really opens up, becoming as animated and cheerfully playful as he is around any of his siblings, or the Walter employees that he’s managed to befriend... or ‘befriend,’ in the case of some. He does his very best to endear himself to newcomers to the Walter Robotics family, and while many are charmed by his cheer and smiles, some need a bit more convincing. However, the brassy bot’s grasp of social norms is tenuous at the best of times, leaving the targets of his more persistent overtures of friendship more bewildered and nervous than anything.

Around his siblings however, the brassy bot is a vibrant ball of energy, eager to shower them with affection, tell stories, or play whatever game comes to his strange mechanical mind. Which really can range from something as typical as hide and seek to rounding up the whole household for an ice cream parade. While he loves all of his siblings equally, he finds he relates most easily to Hatchworth due to their equally odd grasp of reality, and he does his best to be as good a big brother to him, as The Spine and Rabbit are to him. Even if his idea of brothering tends to be more ridiculous than practical. Around The Spine, he can sometimes be a bit more reserved, somewhat aware that his older brother preferred quiet time, and honestly enjoying the moments when the silver bot let him hang around in the Hall of Wires with him, or sit and read along with him. And while his memory might not always be the best, he certainly remembers every time the more reserved bot would let loose to play with him, and so has made it his goal in life to get The Spine to enjoy himself more often, play with his siblings from time to time.

His relationship with his elder sister, Rabbit, is a strange sort of in-between of how he is around the others. He's often at his most playful around the copper bot, especially with how Rabbit seems so willing to encourage The Jon's make-believe games and odder trains of thought, playing along in almost every single instance, which makes her one of the first that The Jon will run to when he gets an idea for a fun day of adventure. And despite the older bot's somewhat immature behavior, the brassy bot tends to see her as the 'lady of the house'. Not so much by who's the most responsible... but he knows that Rabbit was always concerned with their well-being... and well, with the older bot's close relationship with their creator, it just made sense to the younger bot that Rabbit was the one in charge, not counting the humans of the Walter family.
